MONITOR REVIEW RESPOND

02THE STARTING POINT

I didn't start from a blank project.

The mobile application already existed, but several important experiences were incomplete or not working as expected.

THE ENGINEERING CHALLENGE

Understand the existing system, identify why key features weren't working, and move the application forward without rebuilding everything.

Inheriting code is different from designing everything yourself.

I had to work within established application structure and backend services, understand how the mobile features were expected to behave, and coordinate API requirements with other developers.

01
Live camera streaming

The mobile viewing functionality was not working when I took over.

02
Real-time alerts

Mobile event notifications and related interactions still needed implementation.

03
Trip history

Existing trip-history behavior needed debugging and completion.

03FLEET OVERVIEW

Understanding the fleet at a glance.

Vehicle lists and location views provide the entry points to a larger monitoring workflow.

01

Identify and select a vehicle from the fleet.

02

Move from a fleet-level overview to vehicle-specific information.

03

Keep mobile navigation connected to existing fleet services.

ScopeThese screenshots show the wider product context. My principal work focused on stabilizing and extending its unfinished mobile features.

HISTORY DETAILS REVIEW

04MY CONTRIBUTION / TRIP HISTORY

Turning trip data into a working experience.

I investigated and completed mobile trip-history behavior in the inherited application.

Trip history had to do more than display a list of previous journeys.

The mobile workflow needed to integrate existing trip information correctly and present a usable history experience for fleet users.

MY WORKDebugging and API integration

Worked on the mobile trip-history flow, resolving incomplete behavior and connecting the interface with existing backend services.

05MY CONTRIBUTION / VEHICLE EVENTS

Making important events visible.

Fleet alerts need a meaningful mobile experience, not simply event records somewhere in a backend system.

I worked on the mobile functionality for real-time vehicle-event alerts and notifications.

01

Connect the mobile experience to relevant vehicle-event information.

02

Present alerts clearly within the application.

03

Make it easier to review an event in its vehicle context.

Engineering boundaryMy contribution was on the mobile application. The underlying telematics and event-detection infrastructure was part of the existing product.

06MY CONTRIBUTION / LIVE VIDEO

Connecting the mobile app to live monitoring.

One of the major incomplete features when I inherited the application was live-camera viewing.

My task was to troubleshoot and complete live-video functionality within the existing mobile application.

This required understanding the relationship between the mobile viewer, the available backend interfaces and the existing vehicle-monitoring system.

OWNERSHIP BOUNDARYMobile integration, not the entire video platform

I worked on making the existing product's live-camera functionality usable on mobile, rather than building vehicle cameras or telematics infrastructure from scratch.

07ENGINEERING APPROACH

Understand. Debug. Integrate. Extend.

Working on an inherited commercial application taught me to make improvements within a system already used for real operational workflows.

01

Understand the existing code

Learn how the app is organized and how its screens interact with established services.

02

Investigate failures

Identify incomplete or incorrect mobile behavior before deciding what must change.

03

Coordinate integration

Work with backend developers to clarify required data, endpoints and responses.

04

Complete the experience

Connect application state and UI workflows with the available backend capabilities.

08PROFESSIONAL TAKEAWAYS

Engineering means
building on what exists.

Grid VSS strengthened my ability to work with unfamiliar code, troubleshoot integrations and turn incomplete features into usable mobile workflows.

01Codebase understanding

Learn the existing system before making changes.

02Cross-team integration

Align mobile requirements with backend capabilities.

03Practical problem-solving

Focus on completing real operational experiences.
